Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my session last?

Your first session and treatment will last one hour. Follow-up sessions can be either 30 or 60 minutes depending on your preference and the therapist's recommendation.

How long will I need Physical Therapy?

After a phone or face-to-face consultation, we will give you our best estimate on the number of PT sessions you will need. After we perform an initial evaluation we will be able to provide you with a recommendation based on your specific need.

Do I need a referral for Physical Therapy?

No! Direct access laws in California allow you to come see a Physical Therapist without a referral from your doctor.

What if I'm not an athlete?

In our eyes everyone is an athlete, whether you play a sport or not! Our physical therapy sessions are designed to get you to your goals so you can continue to do what you love.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes! We offer 30 and 60 minute virtual sessions if you are unable to come in to our clinic.

How should I prepare for my first session?

Before your first session all you need to do is fill out a brief intake form that will be sent to you through our digital platform.

What should I wear to each session?

We recommend you wear comfortable athletic clothing (shorts preferred), as you will be moving during your sessions.

Is Physical Therapy painful?

If you are in some degree of pain we will make note of that before and during each session so that we never exceed that level. Our goal is to help you leave feeling better than you came in.

Is Physical Therapy only for those in pain?

No! Although Physical Therapy is most often associated with treating pain, it can also be used for other things such as: sports performance training, prehab & injury screens, return to sport after injury, post-op rehab, building strength/power, improving mobility/flexibility, postural correction, and more!

How is Human Plus different from other therapies?

At Human Plus we understand that the entire body is connected. We begin by viewing your body globally to see how you are balanced and how you move, as an issue in one body part can lead to problems elsewhere. Looking at your body systematically we are able to identify the root cause of any pain, dysfunction, or performance limitation. This allows us to not only treat your symptoms, but fix the underlying mechanism causing them, ensuring that this problem never returns. In order for this to happen each session is exclusively 1-on-1 with your Doctor of Physical Therapy - no aides, assistants, or machines.

Can you fix my [condition/injury/pain/etc]?

Yes! Our therapists have carried out tens of thousands of sessions and have a combined 10+ years of experience with a variety of pains, injuries, and dysfunctions. If you have questions about your specific situation feel free to contact us and we will get back to you right away.

What training do Human Plus Physical therapist's have?

We are both licensed Doctor's of Physical Therapy. In addition, we have obtained a variety of additional certifications that have improved our knowledge and treatment of the human body.

Do you accept my insurance?

Our services may be covered by your insurance provider as out-of-network medical care. If this is the case we will create superbill of your PT expenses that can be easily submitted for you to receive reimbursement. We will work with you to take advantage of any benefits your insurance may provide.

Do you accept HSA/FSA?

Yes!

Why are you an out-of-network provider?

So that you can be in full control of your treatment. We believe that each patient should have the final say in the quality, length, and duration of their treatment, not an insurance company who views you only as a number.

Are there any benefits to using out-of-network Physical Therapy?

Yes! We are able to get you better, faster, and with less headache than traditional insurance based Physical Therapy (https://rehabupracticesolutions.com/2019-survey/).

What if I need to cancel my session?

We require a 24-hour notice of cancellation. If you are unable to make your appointment and notify us less than 24-hours ahead of time we will waive the first cancellation fee. If you are unable to make your appointment and do not give us notice (a “No Show”) you will be charged for the session.

Where are you located?

We are conveniently located next to the 15 freeway and Mira Mesa Blvd. Our address is: 10675 Treena Street Suite #103, San Diego, CA 92131.
